I feel fine! Why should I receive diabetes education?

Research has demonstrated that keeping blood glucose levels close to normal ranges can reduce diabetes complications. In the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial, people who kept their blood glucose levels near normal had 60% less diabetic retinopathy (leads to blindness), 56% less kidney disease leading to dialysis, and 58 % less nerve damage.

Maintaining blood glucose levels near normal levels requires diabetes education, and often a change in lifestyle. Setebaid Services,® Inc. recommends that you receive diabetes education, establish the goal of maintaining near normal blood-glucose levels (80-120 mg/dL blood glucose level), develop a plan to reach the goal, and stick with the plan.
